Excellent News Homework

For our class news homework Innes wrote about his Great Gran. Innes' Great Gran is 100 years old and still bowls regularly. Innes brought in a newspaper article to show the class.

Terry Kirkwood

This afternoon Primary 3/4 were visited by Terry Kirkwood (Daniel and Emily's Gran). Mrs Kirkwood taught the children how to draw wildlife and concentrated on animals that we find in the Arctic. The children were then given the opportunity to draw their own animals using the techniques that she showed them. The results were amazing.

Mrs Kirkwood also gave all the children a print of one of her own paintings to take home.

Burns Supper

Art

Unfortunately Laura Kearney was unable to visit our class yesterday as she was unwell. Her visit will be rescheduled.




So instead we learned a little about the artist Jackson Pollock. We painted some pictures using some of the techniques that he used. We also made one giant painting for our wall.

Gymnastics

As there was a badminton competition in Inverclyde today we were treated to a gymnastics lesson instead of badminton. The children had a great time.

Playground Toys

This morning Kai and Ben spent some of the money that their class made from their book class book 'Imagine'.



Last year P4/5 wrote a book as a language project and decided that the profit made would go towards buying toys for the playground.



The pupils had great fun playing with these today.

Our Display

Graham McKenzie-Smith Visit

Primary 3/4 started their Art project today with a visit from local artist (Kathryn's dad) Graham McKenzie-Smith. Graham showed the class a number of his impressive murals that he has painted in hotels, restaurants and houses. The children were then given the job of creating their own mural to go with the North and South Pole class topic. Music with Miss Rukin

This term, P2-4 are in estivating different styles and genres of music from around the world. Today we have learnt an Irish sea shanty, a song about a penguin and started learning a Zulu wedding song!

Primary 3/4 had a great time in Largs today learning how to play badminton.

A little reminder that the pupils will be starting their badminton block on Friday 13th January. Pupils may bring their own equipment if they wish.

Peer Tutoring on Book Creator

This morning we visited P5/6 for a lesson on BookCreator.


The older children taught the younger ones how to use this fantastic app! They did this using paired peer tutoring where each older child teamed up with a younger 'student'.


They showed them how to add photos and text, change fonts, sizes and colours and include audio recordings.


All the children were fully focused and P5/6 did an impressive job of teaching!


We are going to use this app to record all our work on The North and South Poles

The class will also be going to Inverclyde Sport Centre in Largs every Friday. We will be learning how to play badminton this term. Pupils may wish to bring their own racquet.

Visiting Artist

On Monday the 16th January local artist Graham McKenzie-Smith will be visiting the class to show them some of his work and leading them in an art workshop. Pupils should wear trip uniform on this day.

New Topics

This term primary 3/4 will be studying two new topics. Our first project is called 'What style of art do you like'. We will be learning about various styles of art and famous artists. We will also be visited by a number of artists.


The second project is on the North and South Pole. We will be learning about geographical points of interests, wildlife, exploration and much much more. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

End of the Romans

This afternoon the children completed their topic on 'The Romans in Britain'. They made a Moxier Collage page on their iPad showing at least 5 facts that they have learned about the Romans.

Welcome Back

It was lovely to have the children back from the Christmas break looking so healthy and ready to do some hard work. This morning we prepared our reading and homework. We then worked on our spelling. After playtime we have been working on tiling 2D shapes.
