Technology for Excellence

Cedars School of Excellence is running a conference called 'Technology for Excellence'. We have teachers from America, Switzerland, England and Wales visiting the school to learn more about what we are doing with our iPads. Today I gave a presentation on 'Using the iPad to improve writing' and had the opportunity to show off some pieces of work by Primary 3/4.

Tomorrow morning some of the visitors will be popping into the class to see the pupils working on their Keynote presentation on planet Earth.

Please check out the home blog for more information.

We has an excellent visit to the Science Centre today. We visited the Mall and particularly enjoyed the 'Alice in Wonderland' exhibition. Some if the activities made us feel dizzy. The Hubble 3D movie was excellent and the pupils loved seeing all the planets and stars.

Space Poems

This afternoon the pupils wrote poems about space. They used an App called Type Drawing to make their words in a picture. Here are a few examples.

Apologies

I had to leave early today as my little daughter was unwell. Due to this I was unable to hear all the reading groups. If possible the children could read the next 6 pages of their book and I will pick it up from there tomorrow morning.

Huge Planets

This afternoon we made giant planets. The pupils worked in pairs and had to find out about the colour of the planet that they were given. We bought giant light shades from Ikea and painted them. Great fun and very messy.

Dip n Doodle

This morning P3/4 visited Dip n Doodle and made Roman plates. The pupils designed and painted their own plates.

The plates will be glazed and then put in the oven. The plates will be delivered to the school on 2 weeks time.

Creating Characters

This morning in creative writing we made a giant game of Guess Who. The pupils were all given a picture of somebody and they had to create a character description for their person. The pictures were then all laid out on the floor. Their character descriptions were read out and the class had to decipher which description matched which picture.

Swimming Medals

Rachel brought in some medals that she won for swimming. Well done Rachel.
